About

Japan knows something we don’t

It was drizzling and overcast the day I arrived in Tokyo. A dreary start to what would quickly become one of the most exciting years of my life. I was there to study Japanese and business, along with a large group of other foreign students, at a well-known university. We all knew that the experience awaiting us would change us mentally and emotionally. But I doubt any of us expected that it would change us physically too.

A number of us foreign students lived in a dormitory along with Japanese students. The dorm cafeteria served out ultra-healthy (and rather delicious) traditional style Japanese home cooking. We dug in. It was not long after that we started noticing the changes.

I was in decent shape at the time, but I started noticing more weight loss and increased vitality. The other foreign students began noticing transformations too and we talked about it often. One student in particular, a 280 pound Englishman, had the most impressive results loosing a whopping 50 pounds during his 9 month stay.

I went on to spend another two years in Japan, eventually graduating from university there and seeing many more remarkable cases. Since that initial dormitory experience I have been fascinated by the Japanese lifestyle. The simple and yet profound flavors of Japanese meals, their excellent health properties, and slimming effects.

This blog is about my mission to better understand the health secrets of Japan and how we from the West can learn from and adopt/adapt them to our dishes and lives. If all goes as planned it will be a transformational journey.

I invite you to join me for this journey.
